Stop Giving Yourself A Hard Time!

I get it, you’re busy, you’re stressed, you’ve got a family to look after and no time left for you. You’re physically exhausted, mentally drained and incapable of even contemplating making it to the gym tonight.

You’re not alone!

We ALL suffer from lack of motivation at the best of times but the longer we keep telling ourselves it’s too painful or too much effort, the harder it becomes to even get out the house, never mind make it to the gym.

So let me share something with you…

It simply isn’t a priority for you right now…

Let that sink in for a second!

Remember that the next time you catch yourself in the mirror with the extra weight accumulating round your waist and thighs with your clothes pulling tighter against your skin.

You tell yourself you’re too busy or you’ve got too much on, work’s too stressful, the kids are draining what little energy you have left when you get home. You’re starting to wonder how you could do any more when you get home… you sit down and collapse on the couch, the thought of cooking a meal just grinds away at you until you give in to the hunger pangs and go in search of whatever you can find in the cupboards while calling a takeaway for that quick fix.

Think about it though, all these quick fixes and little to no exercise means that this added weight has nowhere to go, it’s no wonder you’re starting to feel heavier and more sluggish during the day.

I’ll even bet you’re forgetting to drink your recommended 2 litres of water a day. MINIMUM!

Here’s the deal, the REAL reason you’re struggling with your fitness is that we’ve become programmed in life to choose convenience and instant gratification rather than putting in the effort and hard work consistently to achieve our goals.

If you were to look at anyone in your life who is successful or in good shape, it didn’t just happen by magic.

There’s no deep secret to getting in shape other than accepting that it takes time and it’s going to require some tough choices to put in the effort without giving in to the excuses.

As far as I’m concerned, there is definitely a direct link between success and being physically active and on top of your nutrition. When you have that positive attitude and no-compromise structure in your routine, think of all the extra energy and time you have to enjoy life and get more done. It’s just fact!

We all know we shouldn’t binge on another bag of crisps or reach for another Domino’s when we’re too tired to cook but when we haven’t put in the work ahead of time to prepare for any alternative, it’s always going to be the easiest option.

Imagine instead, you prepared an extra meal the night before so all you need to do is retrieve it from the fridge and reheat, surely that’s EVEN easier than waiting for a delivery to arrive PLUS I’ll bet it’s going to be a lot more wholesome and nutritious!

So here’s a couple of things to think about, if you aren’t getting the resutls you want in your fitness right now, think about what changes you need to make in your schedule to help you prepare ahead of time and not leave you feeling stuck.

It’s good to change your routine, mine changes as often as I can, it might be as simple as taking a different route to work, trying a new fitness class after work BEFORE you get home and fall asleep on the couch…

But here’s something else to understand, we all know how amazing we feel after a good workout, getting the body moving especially after being sat at a desk all day is EXACTLY what your body needs.

Giving in to this fundamental NEED is the reason you’re feeling stiff, sore and tired all the time, your body isn’t getting a chance to function. Over time, this will eat away at you until the very idea of doing anything after work just disappears. You can say goodbye to dates with friends and from there it’s a slippery slope, sleeping in through your alarm, finding it harder and harder to get through your day.

Even little things start to grate on your nerves, you become difficult to be around, you’re the person in the office nobody wants to speak to, no friends, no social life, more stress at work, it certainly isn’t going to be any good for your health.

So when are you going to start prioritising your health?

When are you going to start telling yourself it’s time to shift your routine and focus on the long-term changes you need to start making to get your life back on an even level?

Nobody deserves to be unhappy in life but all too often, it creeps up on you without realising, by forgetting to put yourself first and give in to the slightest excuse of not putting in the work and taking the easy way out.
